I have just been diagnosed 2 weeks ago that i have this, had a couple of months of being unwell got taken into hospital in early October with bad sepsis and was really quite ill, was in for 10 days nd they while there I had numerous ct scans and X-rays they could see something in my abdomen but didn’t know what exactly it was as all my bloods were ok and my recent bowel test was negative, so tey thought I maybe had a small hole in my small bowel, so they let me out of hospital with antibiotics and said since I was showing signs of improvement it was possible that they were helping so the would bring me back in as outpatient, 3 weeks later I was back and had an MRI scan they could see a mass in my lower abdomen but they didn’t know what it was as my bloods were ok again so they decied they had to do a laparoscopic to find out what it was, I had part of my small and large bowel removed and they sent it away to be checked as surgeon once he seen it knew what it was, so two ago Igot told the terrible news, I feel as if my life ended on hearing the Cancer word, I have an appointment at the Beatsonnext week Frowning2

  • Hi

Sorry to hear about your path to diagnosis - it bears something of a similar fate to that of my wife except hers was longer and initially we did not realise that "sarcoma" meant "cancer".

Sepsis can kill much more quickly than cancer - my wife ended up blue lighted into hospital with that. Her cancer, Leiomyosarcoma was well established by the time she was diagnosed and as it was monitored they offered some chemotherapy - it worked somewhat better than they thought but caused a number of other issues. They were fixable though and then a different chemotherapy put Janice's cancer to sleep. Rather a lot of work, support, etc and we finally got to "living with cancer" that is doable - with care and help.

Good news for you in going to the Beatson, they are a specialist centre for this type of rare cancer so it will really be the best place for you now. It might help to look at the Scottish Sarcoma network or Sarcoma UK as well as on here.

Another page that sometimes helps is to look at issues around anticipatory grief, sometimes we just need to notice we lost that life we predicted but today we start on a new journey.

    <<hugs>>
