Hello all, sarcoma is a really new word in my house,my mum fell 3 months ago and ultimately decided it was pulled muscles, she finally had an xray last week and found out she had 2 collapsed vertabrae (now we know why she's in so much pain),I went to the drs to pick up a referall letter and low and behold it was for a rapid referral for a soft tissue sarcoma!!,I thought she was just going to get her back fixed!!,its come as a complete shock to all of us,the reason for the urgent appointment mainly is because she has high calcium.,Previously she's had womb and ovarian cancer back it 2004,colon cancer in 2015.we are all shocked and at a loss really, she is in her 6th year of remission and all her scans and blood tests came back fine at the end of April, now thanks to my love of Google I've come onthe conclusion she has advanced cancer somewhere (due to the fact of high calcium),im sorry for mumbling along but I don't really know what to do or write, does anyone have any advice?,currently waiting on an appointment for tests, thankyoy

  • Hi Vine, oh your poor mum, she must of been in so much pain with 2 collapsed vertebrae. She has been through so much already, and being 6 years in remission it must of come as a shock. I know this is a terribly awful time for you all, waiting and wondering what is going on, but please do try not to google. There is a lot of information out there, but sometimes it all seems so negative, and that isn't always the case.

Hopefully the appointment will come through quickly for your mum, but in the meantime I hope she has some pain relief sorted for her back.

  • Sorry about your mum. I hope she gets her treatment quickly and feels better. I'm interested to know if this is linked to her womb cancer albeit a long time ago. I'm guessing her womb cancer was uterine sarcoma which is what I've had. I didn't know high calcium was a marker for cancer either. It's great they've picked it up. The terminology is confusing isn't it. When you say advanced cancer do you mean secondary cancer? I was given a massive mcmillan book about sarcoma. Maybe you'd find that useful if you look online? Sorry not to be more help

  • Thankyou, its the waiting and not knowing,I think that's the worst part for everyone, shes on cocodamol 4xdaily but it's not doing much, fingers crossed we will hear this week xx

  • Hi debs,I cant remember what cancer she had in her womb to be honest, she has lynch syndrome which is why she is still under observation at the hospital,no,I was surprised at the high calcium flag,it just says its a sign of advanced cancer, dont think its secondary.im ashamed to say I've googled the hell out of high calcium and soft tissue sarcoma and come to the worst case scenario which really annoys me cos I'm a stern believer in NOT googling illness and symptoms, how are you after your sarcoma?

  • Well I had stage 1b sarcoma but my calcium was marginally elevated. They didn't even see this as a marker but Google told me it can be related. Good luck.xx
