After some advice

Hi all

I have an appointment with orthopaedics (sarcoma clinic) on Thursday for a lump near my elbow which I noticed in March.  Ultrasound just showed it was an irregular shape, mri showed build up of fluid and fat protruding into the muscle so my gp wanted me to see orthopaedics because of my history (currently have womb cancer) so I’m a little scared.  Just wondering what symptoms people have had? I don’t think the lump has got bigger, it doesn’t hurt and I don’t know how long it was there for before I noticed it in March.  Thanks. X

  • Hi,

I didn’t have any symptoms other than a painless lump and slight limited flexion just because of the size and location (behind knee). It’d been there for while and was slow growing.

My consultant told me he could tell from the MRI that my lump was a sarcoma. My dad also saw the man who did my ultrasound after my diagnosis and he said he could tell from the scan there was something wrong. So, going by that, I’d say you’re probably ok. Obviously, it’s not the same for everyone but, as I said, they could tell very early on what my diagnosis was.

I saw your other post about being worried that your letter also says sarcoma- I don’t know what hospital your appointment’s with but from my experience, a lot of consultants specialise in sarcoma and orthopaedics. If you’ve got the name of the person you’re seeing, you could always look him/her up- a lot of them will have a Linkedin account which lists what they treat/specialise in.

I hope that helps and good luck at your appointment.

  • Hi, thank you for replying to my post.  I had my appointment this morning and the consultant is happy that it is just a fatty lump but if I have any problems with it to go back to my gp. X
