Hi
I’ve recently had a hysterectomy to remove 19cm fibroid, which turned out to be a sarcoma!
I also have three small lung mets.
Yesterday I had my appt at Southampton sarcoma unit, I am starting radiotherapy soon, for 6 weeks, on my pelvic area, to target any floating nasty cells that may have travelled as the sarcoma had started to push out of my uterus wall.
But my CT scan recently showed no more in that region, as yet.
Then I will start chemo in about 6 months for the lung mets, as these have stayed stable for 3 months.
At the end of all that, she said I may have 1-2 years to live.
What is that based on, the sarcoma being spread or coming back, or what? I’m confused. Not stopped crying for two days. I’m struggling to function tbh, and it’s my birthday tomorrow. Worst one ever!
Jane xx
Hi Jane. I am sorry to hear your news. Did you ask for a prognosis? I have a different sarcoma to you, but I have not spoken about time scale with my oncologist because I don’t want to know.
It is very good to hear that the lung mets have remained stable for 3 months without any treatment. I would take that as a really good sign, and hope you get a good result from the chemo.
Not a great way to celebrate your birthday I know, but try to enjoy it as best you can with your family xx
Hi
no I didn’t really, but she kept hinting, do I want to know, so I stupidly ended up asking her.
Thank you
xxxx
Hi Jane, I'm so, so sorry to hear your news. Were you on your own when you saw the consultant? My leiomyosarcoma hasn't spread although I do have lymphovascular space invasion. My sarcoma consultant said if it's going to come back it's usually within the first two years. Could you see another doctor for a second opinion? I was once told by a locum GP that I had myeloma (cancer of the blood) when I'd just gone to get blood results. She was just so blunt and didn't acknowledge that I was crying and just let me leave in such a terrible state. I then got the results that proved that I didn't have myeloma. I complained to the practice manager about her lack of professionalism which they took very seriously and she is no longer a locum at the practice. I know that we've had different information about treatment by our sarcoma consultants but we deserve to know why. I'm thinking about you and hope that the prognosis isn't as bad as your doctor has said. Deb xx
How are you doing? Try and keep positive. You are getting the radiotherapy and chemo so you have a good chance of getting this under control x
