my partner was told by the oncologist he thinks he has a low grade sarcoma and was sending him for biopsy. No appointment came and one for an mri did along with another for the oncologist again two weeks after the mri. Does anyone know why mri and not biopsy. Also a lump appeared behind his ear would it be connected to anything. Any information would be helpful as I feel I’m just non stop googling and getting no answer.

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm afraid I can't answer your question but I noticed that you hadn't had any responses from the other members of this group yet.

I've found this information for you about MRI scans and this about what a biopsy is taken for.

Has your partner been assigned a clinical/cancer nurse specialist yet as they can usually help with any questions you have about tests, etc? She should be able to tell your partner why he's having a MRI scan and not a biopsy.

You could also post this question in ask a nurse and one of the specialist nurses will respond within 2 working days.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your partner's journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi Ice Valley

My partner was diagnosed with Sarcoma, he had an MRI scan first then at the appointment with the oncologist 2 weeks after the scan they arranged the biopsy that day as the scan showed cause for concern. The week after the biopsy the diagnosis was confirmed.

    All the best
