Hi everyone

I have had a soft tissue sarcoma removed from the back and side of my thigh, from what I have been told my scar runs from knee to bum and back down!

Im back home after 2 week in hospital post op and the district nurse mentioned the recovery period is around 6-9 months

I'm wondering how long others recovery time was

Thanks in advance

Alice

  • Dear Alice,

22 years ago, I had a soft tissue sarcoma removed from my left thigh. My recovery time was a couple of months. I am over 50 now.  So make sure your planning lots of adventures for when you'll be skipping around again. Many many best wishes (:

  • Thankyou foe your reply. It's good to know that life and the leg does return to normal.

    Thankyou again.

    Best wishes

hi Alice I had two of my quad muscles just over three weeks ago I am recovering well using one crutch when outside it is much better than I expected! Start my radiotherapy soon but really believe the worst is over! Good luck with your recovery xxx

  • Oh Jakie that's brilliant progress!

My radiotherapy won't be happening for a while yet because I still have a open wound that hasn't healed enough for a skin graft to be suitable. I caught e.coli in my leg too so antibiotics need to work for the tissue graft to be a success. Like yourself I'm hopeful I'm over the worst!

Good luck for the rest of your treatment and do keep me updated

    Best wishes

thanks Alice I know I've been incredibly lucky the treatment I received was first class! I go to the beatson clinic tomorrow for my plan in not sure when my treatment will begin but I'm thinking pretty soon as my wound looks pretty good too I will keep you up to speed and please do likewise! Keep asking questions as not knowing how things should be is worse than anything take care xx

  • Is that the one at the Gart Navel? My team are based there too although I had my surgery at the Royal Infirmary.

It's amazing how quickly you are recovering. I try asking questions but no one seems to know alot which makes life difficult but things can only get better.

  • Hi Alice,

Wishing you a speedy recovery. The worst part is over .Don't over do things.

Are you at the Beatson  and is Prof Reed your Oncologist ? He is excellent if that's who you have.

They have a great team there, you will be well looked after. I spent months at the Beatson.

Enjoy being home again amongst family and friends.

    xxx

    Hi Alice,

Depends on how a person sees recovery - I had a myxofibrosarcoma [I think that is a soft tissue one] in my ankle and growing between the tendons of foot as well. I had my leg amputated below the knee 4 and a half months ago, and I would say that surgically the recovery time was 6 weeks to the day. However fading of the stitch line on both sides of the stump [mid-calf level] is still in process, and general sensitivity is also progressing slowly. However with the medication for pain and the determination to walk with my prosthetic, I am progressing well. Stay positive and you will be going from strength to strength in no time!

    Lots of love and blessings,

    Christine
