It can for quite a number of reasons but that does sound quite a long wait, have you tried ringing the oncology department to ask.

Hay, we are in a bit of a limbo, it was taken out by urology prior to knowing it was a Sarcoma and we have no oncologist and no referral to Sarcoma until the remainder of the pathology comes back..... we were told it was cancer 5 weeks ago and then just left to it and heard nothing since
