Anyone have experience with an MRI rejection?

previously posted about being referred to consultant for excision of lump, he requested MRI which has now been rejected on basis of not being able to see anything else

extremeky concerned, since consultant is slow to reply etc should i just get private MRI instead of going back and forth and trying to appeal again? At wits end here and do not want consultant taking this thing out without know what it is (3cm ish lump on arm after needle spike injury in November)

  • Hello Han.s

I hope you don't mind me replying as I had a different type of cancer but by responding it will bump your post and hopefully someone will see it and reply.

I can understand about your concern over the MRI being rejected. Have you thought about contacting your GP and asking for advice? He/she may be able to reassure you that it would be ok to go ahead with the removal and then wait for the pathology. If the GP has concerns about the MRI being rejected it maybe that he/she can contact the hospital and ask for some more explanation/ or for the request to be reconsidered. He/she may also be able to talk through whether it would be worth trying to access a private MRI.

When I had my diagnosis last year, I had to contact my GP and get him to find out what was going on- I had had the diagnosis and was waiting to find out what would happen. My GP was able to contact the hospital through a direct line and I was given a hospital appointment the following day and surgery on the Monday. Just wondering if it is worth a try.
