Lump in forearm - excision biopsy?

I was needle spiked in Nov 2022 and have had a lump slowly growing up to 3cm diameter - after being dismissed finally got an ultrasound that confirmed suspicious / vascularity

i havent had an MRI / or other any imaging and have been referred to orthopaedic surgeon for full excisional removal. Having the consultation on wed, but i am very apprehensive to agree to a full removal without further imaging or referral to an oncology team as aware that if this is malignant without know what it is could promote the spread, especially since its within soft tissues??

can anyone please advise if they have had a full biopsy rather than needle to confirm diagnosis? And when you saw oncology team on nhs? Since sarcomas are so rare it seems unlikely the surgeon would have much experience with them

any info would be much appreciated

  • I had a lump removed twice as they said it was a cyst no need to worry. The original tests were not correct it was in fact a spindle cell sarcoma. I was referred to Birmingham where it was removed again unfortunately it had spread to both lungs, I believe that a blood test can reveal sarcomas.  I would not recommend anyone other than a sarcoma specialist have anything to do with this take care

  • Thank you for your reply and sorry this is late- was this on the NHS? Ive been rejected for an MRI and am now going private for MRI. The only thing ive been offered is the excision which will be sent to pathology, ive already asked him to send the case to tumour surgeons which i think are the sarcoma specialists, but they advised to go ahead with removal saying the full cyst is visible from the ultrasound. I am still very scared and having done my research from multiple peoples lived experience like yours saying do NOT let them just take it outs , think i will push ask again if needle biopsy is possible. I feel at a standstill having contaced sarcoma UK etc, and was advised can go ahead - but dont understand why they wouldnt err on side of caution with needly biopsy and go with the orthaopedic surgeon instead, they just want to get it out  - i have a pre op assessment tomorrow so may see surgeon then

  • They also keep saying this could be a granuloma, most likely a cyst etc - well so did the GP in november !! And now it has been growing with blood flow etc. i dont feel i am taken seriously because of my younger age etc

  • Hi Han.s my treatment was with the Nhs at Birmingham orthopaedic hospital the sarcoma team were horrified to find that I had two previous attempts to remove the lump without any consultation with thThumbsup first. I am surprised they haven’t already referred you to Birmingham. Keep airing your thoughts with the doctors and medical staff, sarcoma s don’t respond well to intrusive behaviour. I hope all Thumbsupes well for you Thumbsup
