Hi can anyone give me some advice please? Have had a whirlwind couple of weeks, went to gp thinking I had a swollen hip, physio visited and referred for an mri. MRI shows a large sarcoma in my left glute, pretty much the entire lower buttock area. Consultant was a back consultant so I’ve been referred into the sarcoma unit In Stanmore .

can usually cope but naturally shocked. Couldn’t say if it was cancer or not?

how long should a referral take? Being driven mad by no news?! Hoping no news is good news but really struggling. Have three kids trying to act normal but not sure for how long.

any advice please?

  • Hi

Sorry to hear about what you have gone through - I can remember by wife's route to diagnosis even if it was now many years ago. Is the diagnosis definitely sarcoma or is it suspected sarcoma. There is a lot of information on this site about sarcoma and lots more on Sarcoma UK - my wife's specific "brand" is Leiomyosarcoma but was low grade (slow growing) and it seems after 2 round of chemotherapy it is under control.

Normally any even suspected cancer referral is flagged as urgent and would aim to be seen within 2 weeks - the world however is less than totally normal at the moment but hopefully that will not delay things to much. I know sometimes we have been dealt with really quickly and sometimes that can be even more worrying.

How old are your children, it is amazing how often they can pick up on signals and sometimes will imagine something going on - when you are ready there is some quite good advice here on talking to children.

    Hope you hear soon

    <<hugs>>
