Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with acktinic keratosis around 3 years ago. I am prescribed solarase. I had a review with GP and I have urgent appointment tomorrow with dermatologist has it appears the treatment isn’t working as well . Does anyone know what other treatments help. My forehead, scalp and side of my ears very sore and bleed. It’s sore when washing my face and head with anything that comes into contact with my skin. I’m using scalp oil at night to stop itching and bleeding and high intensive moisturiser for my face. I’m hoping I can get some treatment from tomorrow to ease the discomfort.
Hi
I had a basal cell removed from the side of my nose.
On my last review I pointed out a small area of redness which was diagnosed as actinic keratosis. I have been prescribed a cream called effudex which I apply twice a day.
It does inflame the skin but gets rid if the keratosis.
Cryotherapy can also be used.
It's good you're seeing the dermatologist and I'm sure they'll assess you and prescribe the best treatment.
Please let us know How you get on
Thank you for reply. I hope they don’t say carry on with what I am prescribed. I ll let you know how I go on.
Hi peteinlancs
Just wondering how you got on with the dermatology appointment
Hi Puckettyboo
They took photos of both sides of my face and front and back of my scalp. The nurse consultant looked and advised they will look at the pics and prescribe efudix. I mentioned I asked on the forum if anyone else had a different treatment and that you had that medication. So hoping to start it in next 2 weeks and hope it’s all the same skin condition. I v read it can be very sore but so long as it works. Thank you again.
Glad it went well.
Yes effudex makes your skin sore but I've been told that the end results are good
Hi
got an appointment on 7 th Dec to discuss treatment options. I have been diagnosed with wide spread AK.
So sorry to hear about your struggles with actinic keratosis. It sounds like you're going through a tough time. It's great that you're proactive about seeking treatment and have a dermatologist appointment tomorrow. In the meantime, have you considered discussing botriomycome with your dermatologist? I've heard it can be helpful, and you might want to check out some info on Therapeutique Dermatologique for additional insights.
