Mohs surgery

For a basal cell carcinoma on my nose, I have been given Mohs surgery. However the Macmillan website does not recognise the word. But as there are several doctors in my local hospital who specialise in this form of surgery, this must be something to be put right in Macmillan's website. There must also be several Macmi;llan view\ers who have had this surgery.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the skin cancer group which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that you have recently had to undergo surgery to remove a basal cell carcinoma on your nose and I hope you're recovering well.

I noticed that you are struggling to find information about Mohs surgery on the Macmillan website. If you click here the link will take you straight to the information that Macmillan has.

You are right that there are quite a few people in the group who have had this form of surgery.

    Wishing you all the best

  • MOHs surgery is definitely the best because at least they test as they are removing it, and they are much more likely to get it all, the other way they cut a wide margin and you wait weeks to find out if it is all out, and could still end up having it done again if they haven’t managed to take it all away.

  • I think mohs is the best but as there was a long wait where I am for mohs I was offered slow mohs which is a good alternative if you don't want to wait a long time for surgery.

It just means that they don't reconstruct immediately. You have a dressing on the wound for two weeks whilst waiting for histology.
