Sorry for long post. I went to see GP beginning of October last year about I thought was a spot on my chin which just would not heal and I was getting worried. I had had it for five months before seeing him. He straightaway said he thought it was a bcc and took photos and made a referral to the dermatology clinic. I heard nothing for eight weeks so I telephoned dermatology appointments and was told that as the referral had not been marked as urgent and because of COVID-19 I would have to wait. By this time the lesion was regularly bleeding and a scab would form, drop off, bleed and then re-scab. This continues to the present time. I eventually received a letter confirming a telephone consultation for the 12th April and asking me to send more photos, which I did. Lady consultant said pictures were definitely suggestive of a bcc and I would get an appointment for surgery in 3-4 weeks. Didn’t hear a word and rang them end of last week and was told they would send me a copy of letter sent to GP and a leaflet about bcc. Could not tell me how much longer I would have to wait for surgery. Letter received today but no leaflet. I am obviously worrying about this. I am a lady, aged 76.
Hi all. Still waiting for my result. My scar is still quite lumpy and unsightly, despite using Bio-Oil. Does anyone have any recommendations of something I can try, please?
Sorry to hear you haven't had your results back yet oldie76. I got mine back just under a week ago and the lesion on my chest was a BCC and the one on my back was nothing to worry about. Hopefully your results won't be too long now. Did you ask when you had your excision how long it should be before you'd hear?
When I had the follow-up operations after being diagnosed with melanoma, the skin cancer nurse recommended massaging the scar a couple of times a day with E45. She said that there was no need to spend money on expensive creams and that something simple like E45 was perfectly good enough. I followed her advice and my scars are nice and flat and hardly visible, although it did take quite a while for this to happen.
Now that my wounds are completely healed from the recent excisions I am massaging them twice a day with E45 and hope that they will turn out as good as my others have.

Hi Latchbrook. Lovely to hear from you again. I rang the dermatology secretaries today to ask when I would get my result. She said I should have received them by now and kindly read the letter to me. Yes, it was definitely a bcc and the surgeon has removed it all. She is going to send me a copy of the letter to my GP which I should have received a fortnight ago.
thank you for your advice about E45. The dermatology nurses never offered any advice at all, and apart from your husband’s leaflet which you kindly sent me the link for, provided nothing. I’m so obliged to you for your help.
Im glad you have had your result and pleased the lesion on your back is not sinister, and that your wounds are healed. I will take your advice and massage the scar twice a day. Thank you so much for your interest. I celebrated my 77th birthday a week ago.

That's great that all of the BCC was removed first time oldie76. I'm sure your scar will improve with time, mine certainly did.
I also celebrated my birthday last week!
Take care

Never been happy with the way my scar has healed, it’s still very lump. Now there is a pronounced pink lump just above where the bcc was exist but along the scar. Should I be concerned it is another bcc. I had no follow up appointments and don’t know where to try and get seen. Any suggestions, please?
Hi oldie76
That must be distressing for you that your scar is still lumpy. I don't have any recommendations as to what can be done to make the appearance better as all of my scars have faded with time.
As for your pink lump, if you have been discharged from dermatology then you should make an appointment with your GP and they will refer you back if they feel it needs looking at.
I hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about.

Thank you for your reply, Latchbrook. Yes, I am going to try and get a GP appointment but worry that I may be wasting their time if, indeed, I’m able to get one. Haven’t seen a medic since I had the bcc excised last June. I do hope you’re keeping well. X
Hi oldie76,
I am sorry to hear that your scar is still lumpy and that it continues to bother you.
Have you tried to massage the site? I have had very good results from massage to flatten out the site of two skin grafts. You'll need to massage pretty vigorously, sometimes with cream and sometimes without, rolling the skin between your thumb and forefinger when you have warmed up the area and always hydrating afterwards. It may take several months to reduce the bumpiness but do persist. It will be worth it!
Take care
