Hello everyone. Glad I've found this forum. I'm getting slightly worried and wondered if anyone has had a similar situation as mine.
I was referred for a BCC on the top bridge of my nose, saw a consultant in November 2020, who confirmed it was a bcc and while I was waiting for the consultation from referral I noticed another one in the crease of my nostril, he also confirmed it was another bcc. I am still waiting for surgery and now I've discovered another one in the crease of my other nostril. I called the consultants secretary and she said I'd have to have a new referral for that, so I rang my GP and they have referred me to a teledermist, that was 3 weeks ago now. I've also got a scaly lump appear on the top of my foot. I'm at my wit's end as I didn't think bcc's spread. Sorry to babble on, but just wondered if anyone has has more than 1 bcc appear within a year? Also I'd like to know if the local anaesthetic in the nose hurts. I also care for my disabled son and he's having lots of trips that take 6 hour round trips for his hospital appointments. Feeling slightly drained with it all. Thanks for listening(reading) this. Many thanks x
Hi AJFSH,
Sadly, yes I had two BCCs near the tip, one at the side and one at the corner of the nostril. They all appeared around the same time. In my case they were all independent BCCs and this is the most likely scenario for you too. BCCs very rarely spread and in general need to be left untreated for many, many years before they spread.
I had a flurry of BCCs a few years back but with my draconian sun-protection scheme, that has stopped.
I can't say for the anaesthetic. I had a general anaesthetic as these BCCs were removed while I was having a skin graft near my eye and a general was recommended. The anaesthetic I had for the biopsies on my nose was not particularly painful. Getting a local anaesthetic on my ear was probably the worst!
I agree that all of this is pretty overwhelming and the current context does not help at all.
Take care
Miranda
I have just had 2 bccs removed one from my nose and the other from my forehead within a month of each other, I previously had two removed from my nose, they don’t spread as far as I know, and the and the needle does sting going in, but you don’t feel anything after that, I found having the MOHs surgery last time was best because at least you know they have got it all in one go.
Thanks it’s looking better every day but I think I will have to be more careful than I normally am in summer because the skin looks quite delicate, I am amazed that I got any more bccs after the first one, because I was almost fanatical about putting sunscreen on.
That's good news. It just shows what can happen if we don't use sunscreen. I've never been a person to sit out in the sun, but done a lot of camping all my life. So, although slightly too late, it's important to use sunscreen. Roll on July for me (just as we're hopefully allowed out again). X
Hi, I am new to this forum and recently been diagnosed with multiple BCC one one the tip of my nostril and the other inside my nose on the bridge.
I have had a biopsy and yes the local anaesthetic did really sting on the first injection but after that it was fine and I only needed paracetamol for the pain. Recently I have had a third come up on my earlobe and I will have to now start the process of this being analysed as this looks and feels the same. I am now awaiting an appointment for the surgery to take place and the haven't decided where the flap will come from either the forehead or my cheek. Sadly its all a waiting game for us, we all would love it to be done quicker but patience is something I am having to find.
Good luck with your treatment AJFSH.
Hello Foxy9867
Sorry to hear your in a similar situation as myself. Thanks for the tip on the injection, I think I can bear that for a few seconds. I hope you get some help soon on your earlobe and yes it is the waiting game that's the worse bit! I'm still waiting to see a teledermist for the other one I've discovered on the other side of my nose, bits s you said, we get to know what they feel and look like now.
I wish you all the best for your up and coming surgery. Keep in touch x
Thanks for getting back to me, I wasn't sure if you would see my response. Good luck with your surgery and let us know how it goes. This is my second cancer and 21 years ago i had a SCC removed on my neck, so if this is what mine is or a BCC its the best one to get and remember we are all here for you. Good luck and keep in touch. Foxy x
Hi thank you for your response. It's nice to know we're in it all together for support. I've now had another urgent referral for a suspicious mole on the top of my foot for next Thursday, I seem to have bumps popping out all over the place! Not sure what technique they will use to remove it or whether I can wear shoes afterwards?!
Hoping it's nothing nasty.
Xx
