Have any of you used Efudex on your nose / face. I have been told I need to have it on the edge of a skin graft for invasive bcc on my nose tip two years ago, for a patch of suspected solar keratosis. I've seen some horrifix photos and read about bad side effects. I wonder if I should go for freezing it off ...
Thanks and love to you all. X
Hi Ilona,
I've been using Efudix once a day on a small patch of skin above my upper lip for 3 weeks now, and on the lower half of my nose for a week. The nose has not started to visibly respond yet, but the upper lip area is very red, very dry and very tight-feeling. I moisturise the area using Vaseline throughout the daytime, which helps a lot, and apply Efudix at night. Yes, it's a bit unsightly and sore, but not unbearable, and nowhere near as impressive a reaction as I have on my chest.
I can't really advise on freezing versus cream, but do know that when I used Aldara for a bcc several years ago, it brought out and treated several additional areas of damage that weren't yet visible to the naked eye. My current Efudix treatment is doing the same. I imagine if you choose to use the cream, you might also find a larger area will react than you expect, which would potentially deal with more damage all at once than the freezing. Hopefully other people will be able to steer you better.
Good luck with whatever you choose. If you do go with the cream, I just try to tell myself that now's the best possible time to be doing it, when we all have to wear masks when we're out and about.
Be kind to yourself - it's not always easy, is it? x
Hi XSunLover,
Thanks for your quick reply. I'm so sorry you are having to go through this, but it's helpful to read your post. The account (and photo diary) on skincancer.net is really terrifying. It sounds like you are doing a lot better. That's reassuring.
Sending much love, and you, too, go gently!
Ilona. xx
