Hello. I'm booked (finally after a long, long wait) for Mohs on my face. I had an appointment for the excision several weeks ago but when he examined me the surgeon decided it was too extensive and would require MOHS. He did say I should allow "all day" for the surgery.
I was hoping to see the MOHS surgeon before the procedure to get more info but now find that won't happen
I have to arrange transport to/from the hospital due to the distance and it's difficult having no idea how long it will take. I truly do understand noone knows until it gets started
but has anyone had a full day of MOHS surgery, is that likely? I'm talking 9 a.m. till 5 p.m.
Be grateful to hear how long it took for anyone else. Thanks.
Hi
I'm glad to hear that your surgery date for your Mohs procedure has finally come through.
I haven't had this so can't help with your question. As you say, no one, not even the surgeon, will know how long it's going to take. I don't think it's the actual removing of the layers of skin that takes the time but the waiting while the area removed is looked at to see if all the BCC has been removed. You could be lucky and the very first pass removes it all or it might take several passes.
The only thing I can suggest is that you have a look through previous posts here to see if people mention how long the procedure took. You can narrow it down by using the search facility.
When is your surgery due?

Hi
How are you and have you had your Mohs surgery yet?
x
Hi latchbrook. Not yet it is due this Tues 22nd. I was unable to find anything on the search facility that might guide me relating to time, but anyway it is difficult to compare really since every case is unique. I have had my covid test in preparation yesterday. I am anticipating it may take some time so am quite prepared with a novel, packed lunch and nibbles as I expect most of my time will be spent sitting/laying around waiting results from the surgery/investigations! Fingers crossed it all goes ahead as planned with the impending threat of more nationwide lockdowns.
I had a quick look using the search facility but, like you , couldn't find anything from anybody who said they'd spent all day in hospital.
You sound like you're going prepared but hopefully they'll get it all at the first pass!
I'll be thinking of you

My surgery lasted all day as it took 5 stages, and by the time they'd finished the grafting it was early evening. But many of the people who were there in the morning had gone by lunchtime, and others who arrived in the afternoon had also finished before me. So it very much depends on how many stages are needed, but you're wise to take something to keep yourself occupied
Sorry for the late reply as I see your surgery is in a couple of days. Only just got a notification of your post.
Hope it goes well
Thanks. I've been told it is extensive morphoeic BCC so it might take some time, but I'm prepared !
Hi
How did the surgery go? I'm hoping that you're not too sore.
