Hi I was diagnosed with melanoma stage 3 and will soon have my lymph node removed from my right groin, has anyone had this done?

Hi , welcome to the online community, I am from the melanoma group and I can see that you have joined that group to, which is a better place to post this question. I have had a needle biopsy to confirm melanoma and then one node removed from my right groin, but it was a laparoscopic operation which isn’t the norm.  Did you have a needle biopsy first? Or are you meaning you had a sentinel lymph node biopsy and now need more nodes removed? There are lots of people in the melanoma group who have had surgery for their lymph nodes.

hi I had the needle biopsy first which confirm cancer has spread to my lymph node and they wanted to remove my lymph node and other nodes as a preventive under general anesthetic but because of the corona virus they will now do a wide local excision under local which isn't what they would normally like to do and just remove the infected node. Has any body had that done? Was it painful? Will it prevent the cancer spreading? What treatment did you have as they have not made this clear to me, sorry for all these question, I'm  just confused by it all

  • Hi again

I replied to your other post in this group last night and recommended that you joined and posted your questions in the melanoma group. This is because people in the skin cancer group that you're currently posting in mainly have basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas so they won't have had any of the treatment that you're asking about.

I can see that you've joined the melanoma group and if you click on the link I've created it will take you straight there. You can then start a new post by clicking on 'start a discussion' and you should get plenty of replies from people in the melanoma group.
