I have just recently bee diagnosed with a bcc on side of forehead and I was inormed that the best way to manage this was to remove it and to resurface the area with a skin graft, has any one in this community had this procedure done and what were the difficulties such as bleeding the graft not taking or other issues, also on what physically you could do following the procedure and for how long are you incapacitaed for, as I am currently a full time carer
,I would welcome views on other treatments such as currtage and elecrodissection or laser treatments .and if members have expirenced these and are they as good and less invesive with as good results.
many thanks
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with a BCC (basal cell carcinoma) on your forehead and it's natural to want to explore different ways of having it treated.
As my skin cancer was a melanoma on my arm which was removed by surgery with no skin graft needed I don't have the experience you're looking for.
Lots of people in this group have had an excision followed by a skin graft and hopefully some of them will be able to tell you about their experiences.
Using the search bar in this group I've had a look to see if anyone in the group has had their BCC removed by curettage but, unfortunately, couldn't find anyone who has.
I have found one person who had their BCC removed by electrodesiccation and if you click on this link it'll take you to their thread. You could then respond to them to ask how they got on.
Lot's of people mention laser treatment but I think most of these refer to treatment to improve their scars after surgery. However, if you type 'laser' into the search bar you could have a look through the posts. Equally if you type 'graft' into the search bar you'll find plenty of posts to read and you could respond to the more recent ones if you want to ask any questions.
When you have a minute it would be useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Let us know what treatment you decide to have

Hi Latchbrook
Thank you for your very concerned reply and how to navigate the web site ,as you now I am new to this site and every bit of assistance is very helpful
I do hope that everything went ok for yourself and everything is now healed and on the mend.I will take your advice and use the search bar as you mentioned.
Once Again Thankyou

You're welcome
Thanks for asking after me. I had my surgery just over 3 years ago now and have 3 monthly check-ups with my dermatologist to make sure that the melanoma hasn't come back or surfaced somewhere else. Just another 2 years to go and then I'll finally be discharged

Hi
I was wondering how you were doing and if you'd decided on what type of treatment you wanted to have to remove your BCC.

Hi Latchbrook
Thank you for your reply and concern ,since last being on line I have now seen the consultant and discussed options with him and he has said that the best coarse of treatment for this BCC is excision and either a small graft or a skin flap which I believe is less invasive than a graft .I asked what was waiting time and was told 8 to 12 weeks ,however as I have just recently heard on the media that due to this virus in wales certain surgical procedures are being cancelled for a time.As yet I have heard nothing from the hospital and assume everything is going ahead but in these times it all changes within a day or a week ..Hope you are keeping well
Sorry for the text size but I do not know how to change the font size on this site
Regards
Hillbilly.
Hi
That's good news that you've had the opportunity to discuss the various options with the consultant and he's been able to help you come to a decision.
Eight to twelve weeks is probably about the average wait time to have a BCC removed and hopefully the coronavirus outbreak won't delay it further. However, most BCCs are very slow growing so even if your operation is delayed this shouldn't cause you a problem.
There's nothing wrong with the font size that your message is showing in so perhaps it was just showing small on your laptop/phone.
Take care
