Good Experience with Aldara Cream for BCC

Hi friends,

It's been a while since I posted anything here.

4 years ago I had a BCC (about 10mm diam) surgically removed from my forehead. This healed well but did leave me with a large "Z" shaped white scar (where the surgeon used the surrounding tissue to patch the hole when the BCC was removed).

About 1 year ago I noticed a similar sore patch at the top of my chest / base of neck which didn't heal. After the usual multiple trips to GP (who recommended steroid cream / moisturisers etc., just as per my 1st BCC) eventually I was referred to dermatologist who diagnosed BCC (no surprise!). This time they recommended Aldara cream, which was offered for my 1st BCC. Then I chose to go with the surgery (thinking it would be quicker and more effective).

I followed instructions to apply the cream each night and after 2 weeks it looked a mess. A large scab then formed before peeling away...to reveal perfectly smooth, pink skin!

I have a follow up with the dermatologist in 1 week and hopefully get the all clear. I certainly looks like the BCC is gone.

Just wanted to share this experience. With hindsight I wish I had gone for the Aldara cream rather than surgery on my forehead, to avoid the scar. I know everyone has different conditions and experiences but just wanted to share mine.

Take care.

Steve

  • Hi Steve

Thanks very much for sharing your experiences with both surgery and using Aldara cream to get rid of your BCCs. I'm sure others who maybe have to make this decision in the future will find it really useful.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could update your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'.

    Wishing you all the best
