Hi Guys,
About 2 months ago I notices what looked like a bruise/blood under my toe nail and thought nothing of it at the time, but decided to keep my eye on it. After 2 Months it hadn't changed in size but it wasn't going away either. Obviously I googled symptoms as the modern day person does. There is no vertical stripe as is common with subungual melanoma. It does not hurt and it really looks like blood or a bruise (I play football regularly and noticed it a few days after the match).
Anyway, I decided to get it checked out to be on the safe side. I went to my GP last Wednesday who referred me to the hospital the next day to have High Rez images taken. She said she wasn't worried at that its most likely just blood under the nail. However, I've just received a call from the hospital, I have an appointment with a dermatologist this coming Monday (11 days after I had the photos taken). Is this common to see a Dermatologist this quickly? Its got me worried that I got a phone call rather than a letter, although the receptionist on the phone did say that i Would receive a letter also.
Just wondered if anyone had been through this process before and if it is common to receive a app so quickly to see a derm? Really worried that it might be serious now but it honestly just looks like blood under the nail..
Any help / advice appreciated
Thanks
M
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you're currently having investigations for subungual melanoma. It must be a very worrying time for you.
Could I suggest that you might like to join us over in the melanoma group as you're more likely to meet others there who have experience with this type of melanoma.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It's normal to see a dermatologist within 14 days if you've been referred by your GP. Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing but you've done the right thing in going to see your GP to find out what's caused it.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I'll look out for you in the melanoma group.

Hi
How did you get on when you went to see the dermatologist recently? I hope he wasn't concerned and you haven't had to have any further investigations.
