I have been diagnosed with malignant melanoma and the results from the biopsy were 2.1mm on the Breslaw scale. I have been referred to plastic surgeon for further tests ! Feeling very anxious I had breast cancer 15 years ago and worried what is going to happen!

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently been diagnosed with melanoma and you might also like to join the melanoma group where you can benefit from the experiences of others with this type of skin cancer.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then introduce yourself and post questions after selecting 'start a discussion' and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

Are the further tests that you say you're having a wide local excision (WLE) and sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB)? If so the WLE involves taking a further margin of skin all around the original biopsy site to make sure that absolutely no cells have been left behind. The SLNB involves removing the sentinel lymph node and sending it off to be biopsied to see if it contains any cells. I've had both of these ops so can hopefully answer most questions you might have about them.

When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi

I was wondering how you were and if you've had your appointment with a plastic surgeon yet?
