Does anyone have any experience of this type of radiotherapy? From the description on the MacMillan website it appears to be an option for advanced prostate cancer which has spread to the bone. However when we mentioned it to my husbands' oncologist he indicated it was not appropriate, saying something along the lines.of putting it into the prostate, which my husband no longer has. Confused.
Hello CDE67addc
As far as I am aware - this is the "new name" for Radium 223 treatment. Perhaps if you alter the thread title to
"Radium 223 Treatment - now Radioisotope therapy"
you may get more answers.
It's a costly treatment and not every NHS Trust is offering this treatment. It's quite often used when many other treatments have failed and your PSA is rising.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

I agree with Millibob with his assessment.
Radium therapy brings to mind ms Curie and an old tired and indiscriminate cancer treatment but radioisotope therapy sounds newer and less frightening.
Ive been offered radium treatment to, because all my cancer is in my bones (where this treatment is best used) so I think you have a modern doc that is using the pc (not prostate cancer but politically correct) name.
Im not sure but I bet its one of three isotopes
But I’m not a doctor
