New ly diagnosis

After 2 years active surveillance and a recent biopsy i was diagnosed as stage 2 prostrate cancer.

It has been indicated that i will be presented with various treatment options over the next month or so and i can then elect the option to pursue.

I hope to gain an insight from forum members regarding the treatment options

Radical  surgery prostrate removal

Radiological

  • Hi Theologian

I am assuming all your stats lowish so you have a few choices.

    Surgery

    Radiotherapy

    Brachytherapy

I went for Radiotherapy, in my mind very easy, surgery potentially more issues like ED although not everyone has issues.

Do check out pros and cons of each treatment before deciding

    Also, see what others say

    Best wishes

  • Hello  . If you haven’t already seen it, the NICE guidelines are evidence-based and their on-line document is a good place to start gathering information. Box 2 is very informative.

    https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng131/chapter/Recommendations#information-and-decision-support-for-people-with-prostate-cancer-their-partners-and-carers

This forum is obviously also a good place for finding out about our first-hand experiences of different treatments. By clicking on people’s user names you will be able to read a good cross-section of these, and ask us questions if you want to dig a bit deeper.

    Good luck with your research…!

    1. Hi  As everbody here will say it's a personal choice and all of the treatments have their up and downsides. I went for surgery. My reasons being the side effects of HT and RT, the time it takes and of the PC returns surgery is more difficult. It's no easy choice as surgery carries the risk of ED and incontinence, but weighing it up, this works better for me. Get as much information as you can from trusted sources (best not to rely on Google) ask questions here and of your therapy team, talk to partners, family and friends if you're able to and ask as many questions as you like. You're not alone and there are many people in or have been in the same position.
