Hi....I vistited my doctor approximately 6 weeks ago on an unrelated matter and as part of that investigation I was subsequently sent for a blood test.
Two days later I had a call from the surgery saying could I come in that day and see the doctor. I'm 74 years old and my psa was 12, he explained he was putting me on a two week urgent referral for suspected Prostate cancer. Two days later I had a MRI which came back as suspicious and a week or so later I had my biopsy. Two weeks later I had an appointment at the results clinic where the diagnosis of cancer was confirmed.
The cancer is in both lobes, the right hand lesion being Gleason 3 and the larger left hand lesion being Gleason 4 (so 4+3) My T score was T2, borderline T3 as it is nearly breaking through and I was booked in for a bone scan and CT scan which I had last week and I am still waiting for the results of those scans.
It all seems a bit surreal at the moment and as so many people have said waiting for the results is the hardest part. Until I see the consultant again following the results of the scans I don't know at this stage what my treatment options will be. Also my prostate is quite enlarged 86 mls and I dont know if that will affect what treatment I can have. I'm trying to remain positive and research as much as I can.
I have loads of questions but the most important is where are getting your information from. Please ignore 95% of what’s on the internet and chatbots. You are not yet diagnosed fully so you can’t know what the treatments could be.
Are you alone or in a relationship? This is a couples disease that affects both equally, but on the good side the mainstay of your support is your partner.
From my experience you need to try and wait for the full diagnosis and treatment plans before you get too far down the route of one or other treatment.
I and all the forum members are with you but at the moment you’re in the horrible waiting period which is very hard on you, but everyone will wait with you and support you till you get the plans.
We are here
Good luck
Thank you for your comments, it's really comforting to talk to people and read the experiences of others and what they are going through
I'm not alone in this, and I can draw strength from my wife who had her own battle with ovarian cancer last year. Our grown up children and other family members have been wonderful in their support for both of us.
When first diagnosed, I was almost obsessed with trying to find out information and I now realise that this only fuels the fears that you already have. Hopefully I'll get my full diagnosis soon and then I can explore the various treatment options with my consultant.
Thank you for your support
Hello Patrick (Patrick1951 )
A warm welcome to the group although I am so sorry to find you joining us.
As others have said you need to wait for all the results of the tests and a full diagnosis before you can move forward with a treatment plan but at this moment providing the bone scan is clear - then I can't see why the treatment plan would not be "with curative intent".
I'm trying to remain positive and research as much as I can.
Staying positive is 50% of the battle - as for your research I would stick to trusted UK sources, Prostate Cancer UK, Cancer Research UK and Macmillan (not Dr Google or AI).
At this moment in time you will be under Urology for the testing and results, these will all be put before an MDT meeting to decided and advise you of their preferred treatment path - don't forget you don't have to accept this recommendation and you have yet to speak to an Oncologist.
Feel free to ask any questions - however trivial and if you wish to read a Community member's personal journey (if they have a record of this) just click on their name or avatar).
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Patrick,
we are about a week ahead of you - diagnosed Gleason 4-4 with 2 of 18 positive samples and PSA 8. We are now waiting for a pet scan to confirm if T3A or if it has escaped.
john has been put on Relugolix hormone straight away while we wait for scan, then plan is radiotherapy in 6 months. The waiting and shock diagnosis has floored us completely so give yourselves time to adjust, and make sure you share your feelings with each other. I’ve found this forum, and prostate cancer Uk a huge source of information and help from people that have more experience than us.
best wishes to you and your wife in the meantime xxx
Sorry that you find yourself here.
While I understand the warnings re dubious sources of information, in my experience it is important to know as much as possible in advance of being presented with a full diagnosis and potential treatment.
Some Consultants treat patients, especially older ones, as incapable of making choices, to be told what will happen, and do not like questioning. They expect immediate agreement to whatever they "suggest".
I certainly wish that at time of my first treatment (now recurrent) I had known what I know now.
There IS solid information out there, the trick is checking the source and the date.
Be prepared!
Good luck, Dave
Hi Patrick
Doesn't look too bad really , similar to myself in 2017 before I had treatment.
Looks like still contained and Gleeson not massively aggressive.
Hopefully further scans will be clear and u can start on treatment, HT first to stop cancer from breaking through.
U don't mention PSA I assume not too high?
I know a struggle mentally when first diagnosed but it does get better.
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Dave...thank you very much for comments, I have managed to find some useful information on line from official websites and I was also given a lot of literature by my consultant.
Once again thank you and good luck for the future
Best wishes
Patrick
Hi Steve...thank you for your support and encouragement, my PSA was 12, then when I was retested it was 11.
I'm sure, once I get the final diagnosis I will start to feel better mentally
Best wishes
Patrick
12 ish, that's ok then similar to my reading before treatment, so highly unlikely has spread elsewhere, good news.
All the best
Steve
Hi Brian...many thanks for for your comments and support, it really does help reading about other members experiences, what I really like is the positive attitude that is evident in all the posts.
I have managed to find lots of useful information from official websites and the information pack that I was given after the initial diagnosis.
Many thanks for your support
Best wishes
Patrick
