We have just been diagnosed with High Grade Prostate with a Gleason score of 8.
we have been offered radiation and hormones or surgery.
My husband is 64 - we are numb and don’t know how we are going to make a decision. We are seeing the radiation team on the 10th August
Hi Annemarie
It was diet. I thought a couple of glasses of wine and a few sprouts with my Christmas Dinner wouldn't do any harm. I was wrong! If I had to go to the hospital on Boxing Day it would have been impossible

Hi
I know its a shock but a grading of T2a N0 M0 Gleason 8 should be treatable with a good chance of coming out with a full cure. I am T2c N0 M0 and my next door neighbour had a similar diagnosis some years ago and has made full recovery and is currently cancer free. I am going down the RT/HT therapy path (no choice) and my neighbour did the same.
I am currently on HT waiting for my course of RT. I'm 71 and have a good quality of life.
Look on the positive side the cancer has been caught early and should be treatable with a good chance of a full recovery.
Now you've chosen your treatment pathway and can start on the journey to recovery I'm sure you will start to feel more positive. The support I received from MacMillan has been fantastic and has helped me enormously.
All the best

How long are you on HT before you start RT please / thanks
I was diagnosed at the end of August and started HT almost immediately. RT started at the end of November for 7.5 weeks. HT lasted 2 years.

I’m sure we were told 3 months HT , although hubby thought it was 3 weeks . Then 4 weeks RT Monday - Friday . No one mentioned 7.5 weeks
I've never heard HT being so short a time period. Some are on it for life - not in your husbands case though his stats are too low.
From what I can gather 20 daily sessions of HT are the norm ( 5 days per week for a month) but with me the PC had escaped so the focus had to be opened making the RT weaker. To counter I had 37 daily sessions making the dose the same.
Hope this makes sense.

Stuart
I did think 3 months - tablets. Then RT then injections for up to 2 years..
once the HT stops will
all
the side effects disappear
Ahhh ok that makes more sense and what I experienced.
No once the HT ends the side effects won't immediately stop. My Cancer Nurse Specialist told me to expect at least 18 months although they do become easier.
