Just been diagnosed with Prostrate Cancer after an MRI Scan. Very worried.

Kind regards James.

  • Alwayshope my GP knows about these things and says it could be irritable bladder or stress. I do not believe this. Thank you for your kind words.

Gina I have been tested and there is no infection so it must be due to changes in my Prostrate. I feel it is Cancer because things have got worse in the last few months. When I had my PSA test in June I had no real symptoms, so it came as a shock.when  the MRI scan showed 2 Lesions one 1 cm and the other side 1.6 cm. This is why I am worried. The last time I saw the Consultant he said 25% and told me 80 Biopsies where normal as he had not done any for a number of years and things where different now. I simply don't believe him because the Radiologist rated them as Cancer.

    Kind regards James.

  • Hi James,

Oh, now I understand and can see why you are concerned.

Cancer aside but re incontinence, my husband was told to keep fizzy drinks to a minimum, and limit or avoid alcohol and caffeine, all of which can irritate the bladder. He is also on a drug which helps calm the irritable bladder, so I think  you could ask your gp to prescribe this if possible.

    Best regards

    Gina

  • Thanks Gina,

I am in a desparate state now. I will be dead before I get these results back. If I have not got them by Thursday I will be consulting my Solicitor and taking legal action regarding this consultant. It seems that as far as I am concerned I am being treated as an infidel who does not matter. Like our leaders seemed to think let the old ones die.

    Kind regards James.

  • Hello James

I am so sorry to read your last two posts - I understand that you have issues with anxiety and also are not too good whilst waiting on results - at least you are now able to receive them as soon as they are available.

When I said read my personal journey - it was purely to show you that someone  - with no idea they had Prostate Cancer - can get through a diagnosis, various treatments and in 22 months be back to normal. As you say my journey wasn't easy. IF - IF you have Prostate Cancer - you will be nothing like me - yours will be low grade and very treatable.

Remember, the NHS is under pressure and it's not your Consultant's fault - delays in diagnosis and results are the normal.

Make sure your GP understands your anxiety, is aware of your situation - the changes in your body and your issues with urinating. This may well be nothing to do with the Prostate.

You did say you had issues you don't want to discuss on a public forum - if you wish to have a private chat - my personal mail box is open and you can drop me a line.

I am 68 - no one wanted me to die (I almost did!) but thanks to the good old NHS I am still here!!Joy. No one is treating you badly - it's an overburdened system that does work, it just takes time.

Stick with us and the NHS - James we are willing you through this - we will get there!!

Best wishes as ever - Brian Thumbsup

  • Hi James

The symptoms you describe are very unlikely to be anything to do with cancer. PC is slow growing and you say you didn't have any symptoms before. I had similar issues to you. They were the result of the biopsy and stress. They cleared up after about a month.

As others have said, it's not the consultant's fault. The delay is most likely in the results coming back from the pathology lab. There seem to be country wide pressures on getting lab and scan results back. If you call the MacMillan help line they will tell you the same.

Waiting for the results was the worse time for me as well, even though I knew it would not affect treatment or the outcome.

Hope they come soon, but you might need to wait another week or two. Keep chasing.

    All the best

    Cliff

  • Thank you Brian and Cliff. I was a bit unfair in my last post but I need to know how bad things are. I am still convinced that after 4 Months wait things will not be good. I found out that my Pre OP results were normal. Still do not know how I will react if it is Cancer. I am still not sure if I want treatment if it is.

    Kind regards James.

  • Hello James

Don't worry - I can understand your anxiety waiting for results - it's important to know - the trouble is so many people are waiting on results there's a backlog hence the delay.

I am sure they will be with you soon and you can take the next step on this journey.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Brian. I would prefer not to continue on the journey if that means side effects from the treatment. They must be pretty bad from what I have read. Often the treatment is worse than the illness and I feel bad enough already.

    Kind regards James.

  • Hi Ret

I have been re reading thru some of your 24 pages. Are u still waiting for biopsy results and how long have u been waiting, apologies if I have missed something

    regards

    Steve

  • Hello James - Well first of all we are still waiting for your biopsy results, so let's not count any chickens yet eh?

Secondly - if you are feeling bad and your G P assures you it's nothing to worry about and you are convinced it's the cancer - let's get it treated.

Thirdly - If it's hormone therapy / radiotherapy you are worried about, YES there are side effects but not everyone gets them and they are much better than the alternative destination!!

Speaking bluntly as someone who almost died and having been "through the mill" and come out the other side - life if great - you can't put a value on it.- however - let's get the diagnosis first eh?

    Best wishes - Brian.
