Hi everyone I am a 60 year old living in South Wales, I have only just joined but discovered I had PC about 6 years ago. Initially had active monitoring but when the PSA started rising had brachytherapy 4 years ago but unfortunately found out it had returned this year. So during a strange year as it is I had scans a plenty to confirm and now am going in for a salvage radical prostatectomy next week. My consultant suggested this as the best option compared to hormone therapy due to my age.
I am interested in hearing from anyone who has gone through this and how the recovery was and life afterwards?
Hi, I’m 51 and had surgery a year ago, recovery from surgery took 6 or 7 weeks. Mentally a bit longer. I’m okay continence wise. I think each man differs, unfortunately mine has spread so longer term have effects not related to surgery but further treatment
Good luck with your surgery, take it easy and listen to your body. Remember pelvic floor exercises
Hi BB,. Sorry to hear that the cancer has returned.
I presume that the cancer is well contained within the gland.
Not an easy op, surgery after Braccy/Radiotherapy, just make sure that your surgeon has plenty of experience of this procedure.
Hope all goes well
Best wishes
Steve
