Hello,I was diagnosed yesterday with prostate cancer. I had a PSA test 5 weeks ago which came back at 6.61. Was then sent for an MRI scan a week later which came back abnormal. Just over 3 weeks ago I went for biopsies, the results showed cancer on both sides of my prostate at the back with a Gleason score of 7(3+4) with the cancer being 40%. They have recommended a radical prostatectomy due to my age of 53 years. I am due to see the surgeon next Tuesday to discuss this amd to set a date for the surgery in about 6 weeks. At the moment I feel numb and can’t take it all in.
Hello Yorkyman
A warm welcome to the group although I am so sorry to find you joining us.
With a low PSA, a low Gleason Score of 7 (3+4) and the cancer being contained within the prostate I would have thought you would be able to go down any of the treatment paths open to you:
Surgery to remove,
Radiotherapy and Hormone Therapy
Brachytherapy.
Don't forget you have only met a urologist and surgery is his business - you need to chat to an oncologist too about the other options.
Take a look at my post (it's the 2nd one on this thread)
You need to consider how each treatment would affect not only you but any partner - this is a couple's cancer.
I hope the above helps, please do feel free to ask any questions, nothing is too trivial.
Best wishes - Brian.
