Hello everybody,
I recently had the PSA test (6.7) and dre done which triggered the MRI scan. I got a call this morning to say a lesion has been found and they want me in for a biopsy. Needless to say I'm worried sick but have found this forum quite a comfort.
It’s good you have found a comfort on the forum. The time between MRI and getting the biopsy results is the worst. Knowing there might be something and not knowing what that is definitely leads to stress and anxiety.
Did they offer any other information? They didn’t with me and I just let it go. On reflection I wished I had asked for more information about the MRI. What pirads score and size of any lesions.
it will be hard not to, but the mind will probably turn to the worst possible outcome. Your PSA is low so likely it will not be as bad as you think.
Have you got an appointment for the biopsy? If you have questions about that there are many on here who can answer those.
Take care of yourself.
Hello Craig (CraigT0)
A warm welcome to the group, although I am so sorry to find you joining us. A PSA of 6.7 is low for whatever your age and a lesion on the MRI could indicate a possible diagnosis of Prostate Cancer.
The biopsy and MRI results are the "gold standard" for your diagnosis so it's a waiting game now. The biopsy is the hardest part of the diagnostic journey and here's a link to our notes on this:
The wait time for your appointment and the results afterwards will depend on where you live and how far behind the NHS is in your area.
Try not to worry as Prostate cancer is slow growing and caught early is usually treatable on a "curative pathway".
I hope the above helps - feel free to ask any questions - however trivial.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thanks for your reply John. She told me my score was 4 on the 1 to 5 scale. I was also told how the biopsy is done and that it could take up to 3 weeks for results but that they try to chase them up for 10 days or less.
If you click on other people’s names you can often see their journey detailed. Also as you get more information it can help others to reply in a more informed way if you click your name and add you information.
I was told results in 7-10 days. As it transpired had the biopsy on 18th November and MDT appointment on 22nd December so temper expectations for a quick turnaround.
Hi Craig, looks like you’re the same age as me and like me you run and use the Gym, my biopsy results came back in 12 days and I have to admit it was 12 days of feeling stressed, I actually felt a lot better once I got the appointment to discuss them, I went into the consultation with the mindset that I probably had cancer due to my PSA and MRI results so wasn’t shocked at all when I was told that was the case.
I know it’s easy to say but try to stay calm and let the process run it’s course, as many people will tell you prostate cancer is extremely slow growing so the wait won’t make it any worse,
keep your chin up and I wish you well
ps see my bio for the results I got
Hi Craig,
my husband in same situation- requested PSA 5 Feb which was 7, put on 2 week pathway same day - mri 10 Feb and another PSA 12 Feb. He got a phone call this week to say he needs a biopsy although hasn’t been given any details of MRI results which is frustrating! Biopsy on 2 Mar as he has to stop blood thinners first (stents fitted 5 years ago for blocked artery) so a waiting game for us too…petrified of what results will be for us right now so know how you feel xx
Hi Tracey,
Yes this period is awful because we don't have the full picture yet and it's very difficult to think of the worst outcome.
I had my MRI 2 weeks ago and they found a lesion so asked me to come in for a biopsy. I had that done on Wednesday 18th. The nurse who took the samples was brilliant. She said to try not to worry too much because even if they find it to be cancer, it's curative. I'm still worried however but I don't feel as frightened as I did earlier on in the process.
It's very comforting to reach out and talk about it, so thanks for doing so.
Best of luck to you both.
Craig
