Hi gundo yesit is my first time at the urologist  yes had psa test it is 150  and doctor  checked the prostate

  • What is your history, what was your psa. When you write prostrate cancer what do you mean?

they might do flow test, to see how restricted your urine flow due to your prostrate

they might also want to do a Dre finger up the bum. This will check how the prostrate feels and whether they feel a biopsy is warranted.

after that will be a biopsy, This will be a day appointment probably, I had a template biopsy which took 30 samples to check.

only after biopsy will they confirm cancer or not.  You hadn’t mentioned how far through the process you are.  If confirmed then options will be discussed, depending on results of a scan to check spread they will discuss options.
    1. Braciotheropy, suited to older men whose cancer is contained in the prostrate

    2. Radiotherapy again for older men with either contained or localised

    3. Surgery for all especially when contained with a hope of cure

if you need more info then post some details

  • Ok Salvation,  a PSA of 150 doesn't have to mean PC . Even your GP doing  DRE couldn't say 100%.

But obviously 150 is fairly high so the first thing to do (via the urologist) would be a MRI scan to see what is going on followed by a biopsy to determine any cancer grade.

What prompted the GP visit and PSa, were u having symptoms?

My left leg and fooot were have been swollen since september I had 2 scans to see if I had blood clots  all clear also an abdominal  scan  he then got the blood tests for psa

  • Ok, so wait and see what happens with the urologist, hopefully he can sort out a MRI scan fairly quickly to see what is happening but I don't think that PC can be confirmed at this point.

When u said GP checked the prostate I presume that was a DRE, finger up the backside, if so did he say if he found anything unusual ref the prostate?

He said it was in larged

  • Enlarged prostate doesn't have to be cancer. see what the scan  says and come back to us,

    Best wishes
