Hi all,

it was my 1 year anniversary of my surgery yesterday. And because of rising PSA I’m scheduled for RT to try and get it under control again. Scan and mapping on Monday.

I’m having a mare of a day today emotionally because of the anniversary combined with what’s coming up and can’t stop bloody crying.

Just need some kind words.

Rob

  • Hi There , I am a little further down the road,  srt finished before Xmas awaiting psa result. SRT itself is manageable,  no pain , messes with urinary and bowel function but reversible on both counts. If you require full bladder this can take a few days to get used to but doable. I understand the feeling when prostatectomy does do its job but I suppose the key is will srt work. It would be nice to hear from people who have had successful srt treatment.  In the meantime  continue to ask questions and share feelings , insights etc. Good Luck

  • Typo in 1st message. "When prostatectomy doesn't work"

  • That is tough Rob. Sorry to hear. But if it helps, my brother went through exactly the same 16 years ago and is still getting out and about, enjoying life. And in those days the machines they used for him were a lot older than the current tranche of very accurate radiotherapy options.

You are now going to think I’m a bit weird, but I actually looked forward to starting RT and getting this thing treated…!

Have you seen this? If not, might help a little before your RT starts.

  • Hi Rob ( ), sorry to hear you are having a bad day and also that your PSA is increasing.  It must be hard thinking you are cured and then take a step back.  So where are you now?  The scans will hopefully be able to confirm no major spread, so RT (which is painless and simple) will hopefully have you back on a curative pathway.  Keep us informed and we can help you through any options so just ask.

    Best wishes, David

  • Hi  , just a quick note. If you make a mistake in a post, just hit the ‘More’ option and then ‘Edit’.  I do it all the time!

  • Had a skull to mid-thigh PSMA PET scan which came back clear. So that was good. Trouble is, the surgery came back with clear margins and the lymph nodes they took out were also clear. So the consultant doesn’t really know what to target as there is nothing to see. Based on that, they are going to go for prostate bed and lymph nodes and “hope” they zap whatever cells are sitting there being awkward.

  • Hi, Can you share current psa number. Mine was 0.14 at commencement of srt

  • Last value was 0.10. It had gone up bit by bit but the trend was there. The jump from 0.08 to 0.10 was the final deciding factor. It’s still “low”, but as the consultant said, with the upward trend and a Gleason 5+4 score last year, they don’t want to wait

  • Very similar trajectory. I am also in the situation where margins were clear and scans showed nothing so its  a hit and hope scenario. I guess we both have to trust ,hope and pray (if so inclined) You have your mapping meeting soon so hopefully you will start soon. Best wishes, S
