Wine or no wine?

OK, so I had my RALP on 15/12/2025 and I have my TWOC booked for 30/12/2025. All I have drunk so far is large amounts of water, some teas and coffees. Would it be OK to have a glass of white wine with my Xmas dinner or should I abstain?

  • Hello  , and Merry Christmas.

My name is Dylan, I am part of the team who looks after the Online Community.

That is a very good question. Unfortunately, it's not one that members are allowed to answer for you. Macmillan acknowledge that whilst members might know a lot about their own cancer experience, it’s potentially dangerous if the incorrect advice is given to someone else. Instead we ask that members simply share and discuss their experiences with cancer on the Community, and refer members back to their GP or healthcare team if the situation fits.

Usually the best thing to do is get in touch with your GP or your team at the hospital. I appreciate that it might not be the easiest time of the year to contact healthcare teams. You may have been given a 24 hour hospital telephone number to call with any concerns or you could contact NHS on 111 to ask the question (24 hours a day).

You might also want to speak to a Cancer information nurse on our Support Line. They don't have access to your medical records, but may be able to offer some advice. Our Support Line teams are available 7 days a week, 8am-8pm (including today) on freephone 0808 808 00 00email or live webchat.

Our Community News Blog 'Support over the festive season' has lots more information about the services available when you need support.

I hope you can get the guidance you need soon and have a wonderful Christmas dinner.

    Best wishes,
    Dylan
