I can’t stop wee’ing

Hi I’m new here, but can’t find the answer!

I’m 14-day post radical prosectomy (keyhole) & 4-day without a catheter & doing my pelvic floors exercises religiously.

I have no control of my bladder unless I squeeze whilst rushing to a loo. (In bed it’s better due to gravity keeping it in, but still squeezing&rushing every 2-hours).

Also, sitting down is painful in the perineum.

Has anyone had the same experience, and successfully come out the otherside?  Any tips?

Cheers.

  • Hello  and welcome but I am sorry to hear that you are having problems at the moment. My husband hasn't had a Prostatectomy but there are many on this site who have and I am sure that they will be along soon. To get things started I have attached a couple of links and maybe you can post something on these threads to get a more personalised answer but I think most are going to say that it is early days yet.

     Incontinence after prostate removal

Pads and what you need to know

For the pain in the perineum you might find that a donut cushion helps. You have had major surgery and it will take a while for everything to heal.

Have you been given any tablets like Tadalafil or advice on penile health. If not then ask and we can advise on what is available. The pelvic floor exercises are the key but it may take a while for you to see visible benefits.

  • Hi

sorry to hear you are struggling. Did you prep pelvic floor before surgery too? My brother (had the same surgery 9 months before me!) and missus made sure I did for a couple of months after my initial diagnosis and so I was very conscientious and practiced by the surgery date and it helped speed up leak reduction after catheter removal. So… as long as you keep going with them, things will improve day by day. I found if I reduced my fluid intake, it actually made my leaks worse as my internal triggers didn’t seem to understand what was going on. A regular, proper full bladder helped. Are you have more issues later in the day? As things progressed with me I noticed that mornings were pretty good. I was fresh and attentive and the muscles weren’t tired. Afternoons started getting more troublesome and evenings needed proper concentration to get up from the sofa without an accident.

Day 4 after catheter removal is still very early and your body is having quite a time adjusting to both the replumbing and the removal of a foreign object. Be conscious of every step forward, however tiny, as feeling positive and excited helps the overall recovery!

Wishing you all the best in your recovery journey (I’m 10 weeks post surgery now and feeling fit and buzzing)
