Hello, I’ve been reading some posts on here and the courage and support demonstrated is incredible. However, I’ve gone back to square one in the anxiety stakes as one post mentioned that if the cancer has spread to the bones then it’s a matter of months not years with regards to life expectancy. I dare not share this with my husband who has PC spread to bones and spine. He was diagnosed last month and originally some lovely people gave a more positive outlook but I can’t find those old posts to reread them. Not given a prognosis as advised it all depends on each individual’s response to treatment. Has had steroids, Degoralix and one session of RT
I recall a heartening response from a lady whose husband is 80 and he was doing well with similar situation to Mike. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated
with thanks
moira
Hello Moira. Life expectancy is one area which cannot be predicted, even for our men who have advanced metastatic prostate cancer like my husband who was originally warned he might only have 6 months. Occasionally the cancer doesn't respond to initial treatment but for the majority of men it does and can do so for years, even those with bone mets. My husband was initially diagnosed in July 2020 with a rare aggressive form of prostate cancer and has had several recurrences or progressions since with the latest showing that it has spread to 2 bones. These have been spot irradiated. Nowadays treatment is tailored for the individual but more importantly Mike will be monitored to keep the cancer suppressed for as long as possible. Our oncologist is keen to balance quality of life with treatment but says that he still has more tools in his toolbox if necessary with some of these only becoming available in recent months.
Stay positive and wait for the full diagnosis and meeting with the oncologist.

Brian, thank you so much. I’m a mess (I have Parkinsons which ramps up the anxiety) I worry about Mike who has locked away all his emotions. This diagnosis was a bolt from the blue, went to a & e with exacerbated‘sciatica’
He is just getting on with things but he’s changed and I wish I could help him
Thank you for your kind support
Best wishes

Moira (Help) none of us know how long we have (with or without cancer) so projections are quite useless. Prostate cancer is normally very slow growing and today’s drugs are getting better all the time, so having bone mets does not relate to months! I am sorry Mike is bottling it all up, but unfortunately that is what some men do, but he is no doubt still in shock. Best wishes, David
Hello Moira (Help)
Mike is just like many blokes who bottle up their emotions - for years they have been the breadwinner and head oft he household and find a change in circumstances where they can't do everything and need help is hard to cope with.
Talking to others who can help would be a start, as Liz said above there is "Maggie's" and if your local hospital has a Macmillan Centre they can direct you to local support groups.
Please do give the Support Line a call - it's there for both of you.
Stick with us - we are all here for you and are happy to answer any questions and if you just want to vent - this is the place to do it.
Best wishes- Brian.

Hello Brian, thank you for your insightful response. I read it to Mike and he is now looking into the support available which is a step in the right direction. Already, the support offered on here has shone a light into a frightening situation.
Thank you
