Worrying Post op PSA reading

I have just received the result and it’s not good

Reading of 1.76 when equal to or less than 0.02 is the level required .Looks like the op route has not succeeded .

It’s disappointing to say the least to have to discover and chase this myself ( via NHS App and then phone my cancer care coordinator for an appointment ) and to be left waiting to find out what happens next . When I had the initial test it was the Doctor who phoned and told me and explained what happens next .

Here we go again

  • Hi  - yes, regrettably it looks like salvage radiotherapy for you.  Please don’t despair as your statistics in your bio certainly suggest that this will still be with curative intent.  Today’s radiotherapy is very much more accurate and effective than a few years ago, as the technology has improved so much.   AW

  • Thanks for responding so promptly .i find your posts very supportive

Looks like the biopsy did not discover the full extent otherwise I’d have probably gone down the RT/HT route with all RT now done

    1. They told me that they would take 24 biopsies ( 6 from each quarter ) but only 21 were reported on . I hope that deficit is not the reason the grade 5 was missed .

Having had the two hip ops I hope that scans can locate and target it and RT remains practical . It was offered initially so should be .

  • Yes, if it was offered originally then the hip scaffolding should not affect a blanket pelvic or prostate only radiotherapy course.   AW

  • Hello

I am so sorry to read your latest post and can only agree with the reply from  above.

Your post does indeed highlight the fact I keep telling people - get the NHS App, get FULL access and try and manage your own treatment and journey by being pro-active.

It may well be worthwhile highlighting the lack of communication to your hospital PALS office (Patient Advisory and Liaison Service) and ask them to follow up your complaint.

I hope you get sorted soon, please keep us in the loop.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks AW helpful as ever

  • Update

Got  the call and a PMSA PET scan has been requested  . going to have wait a week or two for this despite being informed that there is no waiting list and asking for  it be prioritised . Going private for it is unlikely  to prove faster .

Infuriatingly , I  have pushed for this immediately before the operation to validate the biopsy and also after the histology came back bad . I was  told not warranted .

if it had been booked provisionally after the histology report I could have had it in the next few days .

  • Hello

Thank you for the update. I am sorry for the delay, but at least you are having the scan which will give full details of where the little blighters are and enable further treatment to be planned.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks Brian

hopefully , there will still be a positive outcome.

Just frustrating to be in this position - again

    onwards and upwards !

  • Hi  : with a Post Op PSA of 1.76 a PSMA PET scan should tell you all you need to know. Keep the faith.    AW
