Going crazy with waiting!

It’ll be 3 weeks tomorrow since my biopsy. Still no idea when I’ll get the results!! I think I might go mad, every ache and twinge gets blown out of all proportion and swamped in gloomy thoughts!
I am alright most of the time but I just need to know what I’m facing!

Sorry for the rant, I’m also away from home this week which is adding to the stress!

  • That's really good news! Now you know what you have and know that it is definitely treatable and potentially curable.  My stats were not too dissimilar from yours but T3 could not be ruled out as the tumour was pussing out at the back of the prostate so they thought the best option for me was treatment with 9 months HT and 20 sessions of RT over 6 years ago to treat any possible microscopic spread.  PSA still under 0.2 at PSA test a month ago.  Another PSA test in a year which I know it will cause a lot of worry to my wife beforehand.  All the best

  • Hi Daniel.

Those numbers are very similar to mine, so be encouraged by them. Not the news you had hoped for, but very, very treatable.

As far as you can, try now to relax a little and let our wonderful NHS weave their magic.

Any questions, drop me a message.

  • Thanks all for your kind and encouraging messages.
I’ve done loads of reading and research during these endless weeks of waiting. I’d come to the conclusion I’d go down the RP route and the consultant endorsed that thought when he called.
Given my age and fitness and underlying urinary problems he strongly recommended surgery.

All the treatments have some hefty side effects, it will be a cruel irony if after having ever more restricted urinary flow I land up with no control at all!

Hope I’m making the right decision?
Thanks again for the kind messages.

    Very best wishes

Trust your instincts and the expertise of the surgeon. You seem like the ideal candidate for surgery and with that Pilates training you will smash the recovery!

    Good luck

  • Hi Daniel I had the same result, make sure you get the detail of the biopsy results before you decide next steps. They took 21 samples when they did my biopsy and there was some initial confusion with my specialist. It turned out that of the 21 samples  between 5 and 14mm only 1mm of one sample had cancer. This meant it was a really tiny volume and as a result I have gone onto active surveillence, my PSA results since have all been around 4.2 which is normal for my age and size of prostate. My initial plan was RP and get it out but I sought a second opinion and also had another conversation with the original surgeon who admitted he had not realized it was only 1 mm of a sample that had 30% grade 4. Take your time and make sure you explore all options.

  • Thanks for this Juddy. I’ll be sure to read the report carefully when I get it. The consultant did say all the samples from the tumour contained cancer.
Thanks again and hope all goes well for you.

  • When I had my biopsy they said they were planning to take 30 samples. they only took 5 because 'your prostate is packed with cancer'!  Mine is locally advanced so RT in April for me (although at one point there was talk of Brachytherapy as well).  The reality is that whichever course of treatment you agree with your Consultant - there are side effects and impacts. As I've said before- it is the gift that keeps giving :-)

  • Hi SquashPlayer.
    Isn’t it just!

Hope things are improving for you, sounds like you’re on a bit of a roller coaster.
    Very best wishes. Daniel
