Hi all,

An advert here for anyone interested in joining the Prostate Cancer Support Group at Maggie's in Newcastle.  We meet once a month (on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 12:30pm).

It's good to speak to others all with the same thing in common.  All at different levels of treatment, so I find it really interesting.

It can give you a boost just when you need it.

  • Just thought I'd boost this to the top of the list.

It's not just Maggie's in Newcastle, all Maggie's should be having Prostate Cancer Support Groups.

It is good on a 121 basis, discussing what's going good or bad.  Picking up knowledge all the time.

  • It sounds like our Prostate Cancer Support Group has folded since the pandemic.  I think our Maggie's tried to get anyone interested in doing an online group during the pandemic in between lockdowns but no one other than myself declared an interest and I am waiting to hear from them as to whether or not they have started again - as i am waiting so long to hear back from them I am thinking that maybe a lot of the gents just don't want to take the risk of mixing too much post pandemic.  Shame, because it was great to see people I had shared my journey with.

  • Freefaller,

The group here just started up again since the Pandemic in March this year.  There's only about 4 regulars, but I think it is great.  If only they had it last year when I needed it more.

On the course I just finished they were going on about surgical implants for incontinence (with a button that goes into the scrotum, to press when you need to go...).

One of the guys in the Support Group had one of those fitted after he was made virtually totally incontinent.  It totally changed his life, and he was telling us all about it, before and after.

Maggie's here in Newcastle are trying to get more men to come (no pun intended), but as you said

that maybe a lot of the gents just don't want to take the risk of mixing too much post pandemic

This could be true here also.

  • Maggie's in Swansea offer a face to face support group at the centre either the first or second Wednesday of the month at 11am. (I have attended once, but I live 70miles away) they also do a virtual meeting on the third Monday of the month at 2pm. I have attended several of these and found them a great help just talking to men in the same boat as myself.

  • Hi everyone, I have a similar problems with Maggie center, getting to it, and there's no local group due to funding, reading your comments gave me an idea, perhaps we could start our own online virtual group, Stevecam and I already do private messages.

It might take a while to sort out but I recon its doable, anyone interested.

  • Ulls,

Put my name down.  Even if nobody wants to be in it, the Macmillan online forum is still a good way to keep in touch with others having PC.

  • I agree, how are you doing, still deaf?

  • "WHAT ...EH!!!

Still living a quiet life, sick of it.  Next Wednesday I get my left ear done, got to wait until the following week for my other one.

I can't wait to turn the subtitles off.

I can hear some things, must be the different wavelengths.

  • Yes thats one of the items to take into consideration, quite a few guys work and other commitments, suppose a trial run could be arranged and take it from there.
