Pre Radiotherapy clinic

Hi All

I was hoping to start radiotherapy late September or early October, I can’t get past the flow test , the bare minimum is 14ml per second , last week mine was a pathetic 8ml last week so I got given a 30 day course of Tamsulosin and today managed 13 ml per second so my nurse who has been brilliant said he wouldn’t put my forward for RT and has put back my meeting with my consultant at least 4 weeks .

I know he is looking after my interests but for me I just want this done so I can get to the end of this horrible illness, if my flow doesn’t reach minimum he has even said I will need an op on my prostate to help the flow,

I know this will sound ignorant of me but I didn’t even know where the bloody prostate was before May this year, sorry for the moan because I know there are people with this illness in a lot worse position.

Hi Tony

Are you on any hormone blocking drugs - Prostap for example? If you are these will stop the PC in its tracks so there will be time to sort out your flow.

I totally get that you just want rid though - I did too !

Sorry Stuart pressed the wrong button didn’t mean to be rude I’m got my next injection next week , my nurse said we will try again in a few weeks but this illness is so drawn out it can send you to a very dark place

Yes you are correct it takes time and all you want is it to be gone. Stick with it and take each day as it comes.

Hey Tony,

Thanks for the post, I’m a little behind you on the treatment curve and wasn’t aware there was a potential flow rate issue prior to starting RT.
I’m a little more educated now… every day is a school day.

Stick with it, my friend.

Thanks Seadog, my nurse said that if your flow is poor pre RT the damage it could do to the prostate could make your flow very low and cause other issues.
