Anyone else on Statins for their cholesterol?

I was put on them twice before in the past and both drugs caused muscle and joint pain so I stopped.

My GP has been persistent and I refused so they referred me to the local Lipid clinic and after 6 months of waiting they said I was eligible but as their waiting list was between 6-9 months they recommended I try a statin called 'rosuvastatin'

The GP called me this week to let me know.

I looked it up for any possible reaction with the Abiraterone I'm on for P.C.

Good job I did

"Combining rosuvastatin and abiraterone is strongly discouraged because the combination can cause severe muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) and acute kidney injury"

I can't believe none of the doctors involved in this didn't think to check

  • Hello

    A great post thank you.

I am "lucky" as my GP practice has it's own pharmacist and he checks for medication clashes and indeed has found one in my medication a couple of years ago.

For the nerds Nerd in the group like me you can check up on your medication for medication clashes here:

    NICE /BNF - medication interactions.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi

I need to check with my gp and oncologist now you mention statins. I was put in them just before I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last December,  but when i started treatment, I picked up my daralutamide from the hospital and they stopped my statins there and then without an explanation.

I can remeber I did suffer with mild aching legs.
