After the debacle that was my prostatectomy I am finally moving onto radiotherapy. I had my first hormone injection 10 days ago. No major side effects as yet. I am easily tired but push myself to attend the gym every second day. I found that I wasn’t able to work at the same intensity but by dropping down slightly and increasing the time I feel that I am giving it my best shot. My first session is next Wednesday but getting there hasn’t been particularly smooth. Because of the spread to the lymph nodes my consultant asked for a PET SMA scan but her request was declined because I didn’t meet the local threshold. I offered to pay, not that I have money to burn, but the consultant explained it would be a waste of money as her treatment plan would not change. When I first met the oncologist I told her I would find it difficult to trust her because of what happened with the surgeon but she promised to be honest and up front. So far, so good. I am not particularly worried about the radiotherapy because once it is done I will be firtted with an artificial sphincter once the urologist is confident the surgical site has settled down. The same surgeon also agreed to fit a prosthesis so I can return to having some sort of sex life.
It ismanotjer attempt at a curative outcome, let’s hope we can get right this time.
