Hi My name is bill,62 years old and diagnosed with prostrate cancer with a Gleason score of 4:5.

It is locally advanced but a scan has been done on my bones and this came back as negative,so it’s the prostrate and just outside it’s perimeter.

See the consultant on wed for treatment plan and would like some thoughts on people’s experiences when having surgery or radiotherapy as both have been talked about as solutions.

thanks

  • Your MRI would have shown where the cancer was did you not have an MRI?

Had more scans than soft mick and all didn’t show a spread of the cancer, unfortunately it spread to a few lymph nodes which were not picked up even after removal and chemotherapy.
PSA went to 1,1 before they could identify were it was and  it was picked up by a pet scan at Newcastle as this is the only scan than can identify small cancer growths.

the name of the game for me was i was playing catch up with the cancers ,that sometimes happens. 9 on the Gleason so if any minute  bit of cancer remained it was always highly likely to spread

    look after yourself mate

  • I was replying to Uguys and didn't mean the smaller miniscule cancer cells from spread but the actual prostate tumour itself in the prostate and it would show if the tumour was close to the capsule, size and position - ie closer to the bladder, rectum or bowel etc which will have a bearing on treatment.  The miniscule cancer cells from spread are notoriously difficult to find even with a PET Scan as they are sometimes too small to show even on this type of scan as my brother-in-law's PET Scan before he endured treatment for his gullet cancer didn't show spread to Lungs which eventually led to his death within 2 years.
