Hi
Apologies for being offline for a while, I went for robotic laparoscopic surgery on 27th May, as I wanted the cancer out, surgeon got the gland out intact apparently, so fingers crossed no nasties escaped for the future. Have been sore and tired but getting easier daily, staples coming out tomorrow and the dreaded catheter out Tuesday. My attention has turned to post TWOC and getting back control of flow etc, prior to op I was using the squeezymen app to do pelvic floor exercises, I can highly recommend the app if like me you need reminding to do the exercises! Not done any since the catheter went in but intend to restart once it’s out. So that’s my question, any good tips re post catheter control being regained, I have to be honest I’m a bit worried about incontinence moving forward, is it constant dribbling or occasional stress leakage? I have got stock of Tena Active Men pants which should prevent embarrassing leaks but don’t want to be wearing them forever. Any positive tips would be much appreciated. Jon
Hi Jon
When I had my catheter out, I just had stress incontinence. Pre op, I had an appointment with a urology nurse to start the pelvic floor exercises and started using the app.
Definitely think that helped with the post op recovery. Never had to use the pads, just used Boots men's shields inserts.
Improvement was steady and done the pelvic exercises every day. Post op I had about 70% continence. After 6 months, back to 100%
Very occasionally, can have a very small leak these days. Nurse told me when I had the catheter out, I had a year to get back to normal so made sure I done my exercises.
Hi jbat. Before my op I became obsessed with pelvic floor exercises. I’ve been really fortunate that after TWOC I’ve never needed any pads or shield guards. I was continent straight away. My op was aug20 2025. I believe that doing all the exercises helped although on reading I think it can be the skill of the surgeon as well and pretty much luck of the draw. Nearly a year on I have odd moments on leakage although these seem to coincide with a trip to Wetherspoons On the ed front. I use tadefil 5 mg every day and have recently started having some nocturnal erections ( 18 months ago I didn’t think I’d ever write that on a forum ). Hope this helps and good luck going forward. Cheers. Simon
