This has has affected my sex life no erections since may2024 till now frustrating it can be

Has anybody suffered this situation and how can one improve sexual life

  • It depends on your needs and the needs of your other half.

This is a couples disease and your manhood is the “biggest” problem (pun intended). Prostate cancer inflicts the most damage to one’s manhood and sexuality and drive and ability are all factors in getting back to some kind of normalcy with your partner.

It’s up to you to both parties to decide what they want and how that going to be obtained.

It’s not easy. Sometimes impossible. But after talking to your other half it the GP next. There’s tools in his armoury too. (Yep  couldn’t resist) so get an appointment when you know what you want and there you are.

Good luck. There’s plenty of people that will apply you asking and plenty of answers from sage forumites.

  • Hello

What you have suffered is just one of the normal side effects of Hormone Therapy. The Hormone Therapy removes your testosterone (the cancer's food) however the removal of your testosterone reduces your sex drive.

Penile shrinkage or atrophy can be avoided with doses of cialis or the use of a vacuum pump but this advice isn't usually given when Hormone Therapy is prescribed.

Once you have completed Hormone Therapy your testosterone levels should increase and you should be back to normal within say 12 months.

Here's a link which I hope will help:

There is also a thread on the Cancer Chat Group that may help - again here's the link you need:

    I hope the above helps.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi

I can completely understand your frustration, I am in exactly the same position as you but perhaps some months down the road in front of you, I'm 77 by the way.

I had my final HT injection in October 2024 and am now only just beginning to envisage returning a nearer normal sex life. After reading advice on this forum in April 2025 I asked my oncologist to prescribe Tadalafil which they did and I believe this has had a positive effect on my recovery.
Following a later consultation with my specialist nurse I now know that they (my hospital) are now setting up a process to assist men with penile rehabilitation after prostate surgery, about time too!

I suggest following the links that Brian (   ) has quoted and talking to your cancer support team, they will all understand and hopefully help you, mine did.

    Edit --- Sunday morning (04/01/25)

Having just read your profile   I see that there are a number of parallels in our prostate cancer journeys and I hope that despite the slow recovery from treatment your outlook into 2026 can be as positive as mine.

All the very best wishes to you and yours.
