Hi all,
I thought my journey had finished in December with a negative biopsy result, but unfortunately not. On my 6 month check up, my PSA had tripled from 4 to 12. They took bloods again at the consultation and rushed them through. 2 hours later I get a phone call to say they want to do an urgent 60 sample biopsy under GA. It's booked for next Tuesday, so from check up to surgery is 9 days, which I think is amazing.
My question is has anyone had a 60 sample biopsy? That seems a lot for such a small area.
If anyone has had it, was the recovery any worse than a normal 12-16 sample biopsy?
Thanks
David
Hi HerefordDad
Wow that is an impressive response - although it must be worrying at the same time...
I only had a 21 core sample (of which 13 were deemed positive) under the transperineal local anaesthetic process, so can appreciate why the general has been opted for.
If you can add some details to your profile - click on your icon - then the more experienced folks on this forum may be able to assist with a little more information, rather than me just expressing my sincere sympathy and best wishes for next week. It is up to you what you want to share....no pressure!
Good luck!

Thanks for your reply KrisPy. To be honest, their response has made me more worried. I feel like maybe they made a mistake on the 1st biopsy. Hopefully not though and they're just being super efficient.
Hi HerefordDad
Indeed - I am sure that you are extremely worried - BUT things are on the move and your team are on it now. As you must be aware the time after the biopsy until the results is a worrying time as well and all sorts of stuff will be going through your head.
I found the Headspace App really useful in helping me try and control the maelstrom of thoughts going around in my head at the start of all this.
My PSA was 953 and my GP got back to me the next day after the blood test, got me on the 2 week pathway and I was having CT and Bone scans very swiftly all within a few weeks followed by the biopsy. So things can move quickly!!
Al the best

Hello David (HerefordDad )
Well that's an interesting post!
The normal trans-perineal prostate biopsy is usually between 8 and 24 samples and is done under a local not a general anaesthetic.
My initial thoughts are, yes your PSA has risen from 4 to 12 in 6 months, so something has caused that, and you had an MRI last year showing PI-RADS 4.
Now PI-RADS4 is " a high likelihood of clinically significant prostate cancer" so what was said 6 months ago? Have they looked again at the MRI? and if this is a "guided biopsy" why do they need 60 samples?
Now these are only my thoughts, not medically trained and not a fan of needles - I think I would be asking the urology team a few questions, before 9 June.
I hope my thoughts help - and not cause too much anxiety.
Best wishes - Brian.

Thanks for replying Millibob.
Nothing was really said in December. I kept ringing Urology for results as it was coming up to Christmas shutdown and I really wanted the results before Christmas. A nurse, hearing my anxiousness for results, said she put my results in front of the consultant and he said it was all clear. That's all I had until my 6 monthly 1 week ago.
