Am I right in thinking that if hormone tablets strink the prostate , that brachytherapy might not need to take place if results are good with relugolix tablets and could go straight to radiotherapy
Hello Cfc
So you are asking questions about your personal journey - we can give you general answers BUT it's best if we know your journey details.
On your home page, if you click on the green computer icon, top right, then "profile" then "edit" and stick your journey details there we can help you - PSA results, Gleason Score etc. Once you have added some details don't forget to save it. You can read a Community members journey by clicking on their avatar or name.
To give you an answer in simple terms - yes Hormone Therapy does shrink the size of the prostate but:
* Brachytherapy is "internal radiation" - radioactive seeds are planted inside the prostate.
* Radiotherapy is "external radiation" - where the prostate is "blasted" from outside the body.
Usually your journey is HT/Brachytherapy or HT/Radiotherapy.It's not something that changes as you go along.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Yes this is treatment I been offer I have gone for this rather that just hormones tablets and radio therapy,I have been put on Relugolix for a couple off months, then go for test to see if it's going well and then bit further down the line I have the bracytherapy treatment then couple weeks later radiotherapy 20 sessions, she did so it's a relatively new combination , I might be wrong as it's a lot to take in, but pretty sure that's the way we are going, I've started to walk every day for exercise and try to prevent fatigue from hormone treatment ,
Ok, so it is the new treatment, must admit thought it was brachy and then some sessions of radiotherapy, thought less than 20 cos of brachy already had but then this is new and I'm not an expert.
Anyway sounds ok, keep going, u don't mention your stats which could help with advice
Steve
Hi Cfc , this sounds like a fairly new combination that has good results. I too am surprised that you need 20 RT sessions for localised PCa but maybe at a lower dose than the normal EBRT.
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
The way doctor was talking to me is that then it's hitting from angles, then after brachytherapy if there's any cancerous parts about they will get zapped.bit worried about doing 3 stages and side effects I guess, I'm sure she 2 weeks after brachytherapy I will then start RT
