Today my interaction with the hospital treating my cancer hit an all time low when I realised that PALs has no role in getting justice for patients but protecting thier employers. I have explained that I have numerous issues with my surgeon the worst being that he openly admitted to not having read a histology report from 12 months ago and which highlighred the presence of adenocarcinoma. As a result I put in a complaint to PALs . Thier response being they can not look at any evidence that is over 12 months old. This in theory dismisses my complaint. How can this be the case. So in their warped interpretation this means the surgeon who misses cancer gets away with this. Litterally over my dead body.
Is it acceptable to mention names on here.

Hi- your folks at the hospital sound as efficient as ours in north wales. PALS are a chocolate fireguard. I would suggest that you make a formal complaint in writing ( electronic is fine & less likely to be lost). Your complaint is from the time you were made aware of the issue so you are probably within the 12/12. If you get no joy there I would suggest getting either legal advice or contact the ombudsman. Tge 12 month is a guide and they can look at the complaint. If you were only made aware within the 12/12 them you are quite within your rights to take this further.
Take a look at your hospital complaint web page and see if there is the opportunity to have some form of advocate to help you . In wales it is the community health council now called Llais. You could also contact CQC for advice. All the best lovely xx
I was only informed by the surgeon that he missed the histology less than 2 months ago. The surgery was in Feb 2025. The problem is that PALs are trying to treat me like the surgeon did, as if I was a compleye idiot. Well they are dealing with the wrong man. My main concern now is can I trust the oncologist who is part of the same hospital trust? Should I ask to have my care transfetred?
Also whilst the surgeon denies that missing the adenocatcinoma has any significance on my current recurrence I can not trust him.
Lastly is there any admin on this forum and if there is, can they tell me if it is acceptable to name names?
I spent 4/5 anxious months chasing my tail with PALS and got worn out and absolutely nowhere. I was causing the death of me by worrying about fairness when as you say, there is none.
I gave up and I try not to think about it because it hurts.
A lazy consultant nearly killed me by the omission of anticoagulants before starting chemo and the hospital stay I had after massive pulmonary embolism’s occurred.
The doctors and staff at the hospitals can hide behind PALS and do.
its a fact of life.
Take care
Hi I know exactly where you are coming from. We have been going through s complaints process for 14 months is a private hospital (this PALS is for the NHS). We are exhausted but will never give up. They are protecting the suegeon yet we are left with life changing consequences. We have put forward a complaint with the GMC and pleased we finally heard back yesterday that we’ve passed the ‘triage’ stage and it’s being looked into. Just entering stage 2 of the complaint process, more cover ups I suspect. Our complaint areas have already been ‘upheld’ by healthcare improvement Scotland yet still the hospital protect the surgeon, it’s so wrong. Hope you get heard and keep going tho I will say it’s draining
Hello Alan (Al985 )
The Community Guidelines (link at the top of the page) ask that you DO NOT name and shame anyone - please keep the name of the surgeon and the hospital out of all conversations.
I am aware you are taking up a complaint with the GMC about this surgeon - as others have said PALS are hospital employees so you need to follow the hospital formal complaints procedure. You can also speak to Healthwatch in your area too.
Kind regards - Brian.

Hello Steve (Grundo )
Whilst I respect your opinion
just move on and hope still be cured.
There could be serious consequences here for other people if as Al985 says this surgeon is operating on people without reading their notes.
I don't think he's after revenge, I honestly think he's bringing this action to stop other men from suffering lifelong physical changes that can have an effect on their mental and sexual activities - not to mention their partners and family.
Kind regards - Brian.

It's all so frighteningly common. The 14,000 new negligence cases p.a. acknowledged can only be the tip of the iceberg of the scale of failings. I guess the truly appalling Maternity disasters alone could possibly double the £3.1bn p.a. paid out in 2024-25.
Increasingly one will only survive if an "expert patient".
I do not understand the "party line" on here - never Google, trust your Team (WHAT "team"?).
I am so sorry for your circumstances. Like all of us failed, the question is do we want to spend dwindling time and energy on pursuing well-protected, well funded, large organisations? I decided not. Water under bridge and all that. And I know that that is what the BMA and NHS rely on.
Good luck with your attempts at justice and more widely.
Dave.
Well written Brian, this isn’t about revenge for us either it’s about protecting others’ after us. This Surgeon has taken so much from us as a couple, I don’t recognise my husband his mental health isn’t good. He’s lost his job that he loved for 41 years all because of one person. We will keep going to get answers, what we’ve learnt, tho it’s hard to put it into to practice, is to not let it take over your life whilst complaining. We respond to emails and correspondence for a short time each day then try to enjoy the rest of the day
Hello Dave (Carl28 )
I understand where you are coming from - let me clarify a couple of points.
* Most people I advise to stay away from "Dr Google or AI" are newly diagnosed and will clutch at any straws for a cure. You know that Google and AI will respond to your search criteria - so if you ask it for a cure it will find one. Google and AI draw their information from worldwide sources. Therefore as Macmillan are UK based we can only accept "trusted sources" and those are the ones I use in my posts.
* "Trust your Team" - again we are UK based. I have access to my Consultant and her secretary. If I message them I get a reply the same day or the day after. I have 2 named CNS's (Cancer Nurse Specialists) I have their telephone numbers - if I call them they answer the telephone. This is how the NHS work at my hospital.
I am writing this, because I can - if it wasn't for the NHS I wouldn't be here. Everyone has the choice under the NHS to get a second opinion or change hospitals or hospital trusts.
Best wishes - Brian.
