My husband is now two years post radiotherapy. His Psa has been dropping after each reading to .212. His latest result was an increase to .255
The medical team do not seem concerned about this but we have niggling doubts
Just need some opinions please
Hello 1966
The rule of thumb after Radiotherapy is that you reach your nadir or lowest PSA reading 18 months after the Radiotherapy has been completed.
If that's the end of treatment your PSA should be tested on a regular basis for the next 5 year. Intervention is deemed to be required if:
* There is a rise in 3 consecutive PSA tests.
* There is a rise of +2 whole points.
The rise from 0.212 to 0.255 is a rise BUT it's tiny (some labs only test to 2 decimal places!) so you need to see if there is any trend.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi 1966 , you are talking about a very small increase on a very small number. There is nothing you can do now, so just have a great summer and try not to worry. Non of us know what is around the corner so try and relax. If in 6 months you have had 3 rises, then your team might start reacting, but there is really nothing else to do but wait. The next tests other than PSA just can’t detect anything at such small numbers.
Best wishes, David
