Hi everyone,  newby to this forum, hubby has just had MRI results back and a biopsy booked for 2 weeks. Obviously iv'e been googling the results, 2 areas rated as PI-RADS 4 & 5. I'm praying for a slow growing 'watch and see' result but it looks like these readings suggest its more serious and aggressive? We've been down this road before with Bowel cancer 8 years ago, and I just don't want to be blind sided again, so can someone give it to me straight please?

Thank you kindly.

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the online Prostate Cancer Community, although I am so sorry to find you joining us.

So PI-RADs stands for Prostate Imaging and Data System, and yes readings of 4 and 5 mean the MRI has given the team a clear view of the prostate. 4= High Risk and 5= Very High Risk that the gland contains cancer cells.

The readings don't show how serious or how aggressive the cancer is, these details will come from the cancer biopsy. Once he's had the biopsy he will have a TNM Score and a Gleason Score and here what they stand for:

The Staging and grading of prostate cancer.

It would help us to help you if you could add some details (PSA etc) to your husbands profile. To do this on your home page, click on the chair - top right, the profile and then edit. Once you've written something don't forget to click on save. You can read a Community member's profile by clicking on their name or profile.

I hope the above helps - please do keep asking questions, nothing is too trivial.

    Best wishes - Brian.
