  • As soon as the PSA hits the magic number of o.1 required for treatment,  i will be be commenting 33 fractions of  radiotherapy plus two years hormone therapy. 33 does same run high when I look at some of the  figures being talked about by other forum users. Could the higher number be a relection on the fact my surgeon overlooked the adenocarcinoma in the 'one lymph node" found in the fat surrounding the removed prostate. It is almost impossible for me to trust any doctor after the surgeons duplicity so I do not think it is a good idea to ask the oncologist as 1) she has already said she will not criticise another doctor, and 2) they are colleagues?
  • My paramoia is running riot. I have, as other users on this forum have  suggested, considered asking to be transferred to another cancer unit, but there will be a delay and  now i'm not sure.I could cope.
  • One very small positive,  I picked up the phone and referred myself to a psychologist at Maggies in Leeds.

  • Hello Alan (

Salvage radiotherapy after failed surgery is usually 33 fractions as normal for this type of case. From talking to my radiologist (I am a bit of a nerd Nerd when it comes to PCa) it's done for clinical reasons. It's done to catch cancer cells the surgeon missed and as these are smaller doses than the 20 fractions it gives better protection to your rectum and bladder - don't forget you don't have a Prostate to protect these bits of your anatomy.

You will be fine - you've already had "the bad apple in the box".

    Well don for contacting "Maggie's".

To keep your mind occupied on other matters apart from your surgeon, here's a link to some reading material:
