I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer some four years ago at the age of 83 and was put on “Watchful Waiting”. Last September my PSA being 18 and having some problems urinating at night my GP prescribed “Tamsulosin” while the Consultant made another appointment for March this year and referred me to Radiology. Apparently my symptoms were those to be expected for a man of “late sixties or early seventies” so Radiotherapy was not advised.
As urination was becoming rather too urgent my PSA now being 21 I requested my Consultant start me on Hormone Therapy which commenced some three weeks ago. The Doctor from Radiology uploaded to me all of the info concerning both Radio- and Hormone - therapy to enable me to confer with my family on the pro’s and cons of both treatments.
Since commencing with the treatment I have felt a lot better, urination is now once every two hours instead of every half- or hourly. I was concerned about the weight increase (so far not happening) and has for fitness I did a 14 mile cycle ride (non electric I might add) in one hour and ten minutes which was similar to five years ago, bearing in mind that my 88th birthday is only a couple of months away.
Ok, I feel I’ve been fortunate but most of my years I have excercised regularly and have not over-indulged myself with what I eat t or drink which I am thankful for. .Now I bore my peers by “Preaching the gospel of Have you had your PSA tested recently”.
